Originally from the southern lands, he later traced his way back to the capital of Shu. First he obtained the elixir texts of the Yellow Emperor's Nine Tripods; later he twice attended Lord Lao at the Jade Seat. From a thousand scrolls he gained the essentials of cultivating perfection; in one stroke he achieved mastery of breathing exercises (tuna). His ritual registers fully complete, he received the Covenant with the Powers and bound the Jielin secret. Distinguishing the orthodox from the heterodox, he won the parish of Futing and transformed the salt springs. His virtue accomplished in the great elixir, his Tao equal to the Seven Governors. Of great compassion and great vows. Great sage of great mercy. Supporter of the teaching of the Three Heavens, aiding the mystery and embodying the Tao. Celestial Master of the Great Law, of the Thunder Department. Supreme Minister of Grand Mystery, Great Lord of the Law of All Heaven. True Lord of Orthodox Unity, Soaring Mystery, Divine Transformation, Still Response, and Manifest Protection. Great Emperor of Boundless Height and Brightness of the Six Directions, Heavenly Worthy Who Subdues Demons and Protects the Tao.
