The True Classic of Wenshi (Wenshi Zhenjing) is the Guanyinzi, written by Yin Xi, the keeper of the pass in the pre-Qin period. Taoism honors him as “Perfected Wenshi” (Wenshi Zhenren), and he is also revered as “a vast and great Perfected of antiquity.” The book sets out the fundamental laws of the universe and all things and reveals the truth. It teaches that one should personally realize the substance of the Tao, which is utterly refined and without form, and “dwell alone with the spirit and the luminous,” that is, become one with the Great Tao.
